It is August 2011 and this is my first entry for over 6 months.

I continued to make demos until the early spring and a selection are

on my jukebox. The  problem is what to do with them now. I haven't

really got any expertise in marketing the songs. This will be my main

task from now on. I have a pretty diverse portfolio - pop songs, folk

songs, instrumentals, light orchestral ballads and songs for choirs.

The two published songs remain on the portfolio of Red Amaryllis

music in LA and a  recent e mail informed me that the songs have

been placed in a dozen projects over the past 18 months but on each

occasion the project has folded due to lack of funding. They have,

however, been accepted for 22 music libraries across the USA so

hopefully they will find a home soon.

I entered a song for the Dreamboats and Petticoats songwriting

competition and was very disappointed by the winning entry which

was about 30 years old and was almost a carbon copy of Buddy ]

Holly songs.

I have also written music inspired by my family history and have

made a proposal to the BBC for a documentary.

The documentary would tell the story of my families escape from

persecution in the late 19th century to their settlement in England,

USA and Canada up to the present day. The idea would be to tell

the story as much as possible, through the known historical facts of

my family, supplemented by general facts about places they settled,

conditions on shipsetc.

It would also have a musical dimension - music inspired by this family

 history.

I was inspired by the stories of my great aunt Resza Bigler and her

six children and my great uncle Woolf Spector and I have written a

suite of 10 instrumentals which chart the journey of Resza and

her husband from Poland to the USA and my great uncle Woolf on

his tragic journey in the Titanic. All the music has already been

recorded in my home or at the recording studio.

My idea would be to integrate the music into the commentary. It

would be a sort of docu/drama through words and music.

My choir music has been inspired by my membership of a local

choral society. It is a good opportunity to get my songs performed as

I no longer perform myself.

Because I have no musical training I have to write all the choir parts

on the key board, record them individually, perform them and then

pay for the music to be transcribed. For choir demos I have to sing

all the male parts and some of the female parts to get a choir sound.

I am waiting for the availability of a really good female singer next

week to sing some top alto and soprano parts to get the full choir

sound. It is all great fun and I work in  a recoding studio in Bristol with

lots of young people.

When the songs are complete  I will put them on the jukebox.

I have also touched base with some old friends - Stuart Timbs my old

playing partner and John Levett my songwriting partner from the late

60's. He is a successful and published poet.

I will meet up with John soon and wemay even write together again.

     2009 - 2011

       August 2009

My ambition has always been to be to be a successful songwriter.
I have had a bit of early success and as things unfold I will update on the site. I have written a
song with a well known songwriter in the USA. A demo of the song is currently being recorded
      in Los Angeles

      September 2009
The song is called Tell me,Tell me and has been published by Red Amaryllis Music in Los
Angeles. The demo has been recorded and a synchronization license has been issued to a TV
production company for its future use in a TV movie. Also I am currently writing another song
with the same songwriter. Molly Ann Leikin has written songs for Cher, PlacidoDomingo, Billy
Jo Spears, Anne Murray, Tina Turner and Billy Preston.

      October 2009
The new demo What happened to me has now been recorded in LosAngeles and is being
pitched around the main recording and publishing houses - fingers crossed. I have also
purchased.a digital piano and have composed 5 new songs.

      November 2009
5 more new songs and the purchase of a Boss digital recording studio. I decided that with
material I had recorded in August, together with 6 new songs and two songs from the Thirty
Years on Pause album that I had enough material for a Christmas album. I spent hours learning
how to use the equipment - the biggest problem was getting all the songs at the same volume
level. Anyway to cut a long story short I have produced an 11 track album of instrumentals -
5 tracks produced in the recording studio and 6 at home........................................... I play 2
guitars and a digital piano, which has many other instruments, as you will hear. On track 1 Ben
Woodward plays piano. I play all the other piano parts. Another problem was getting equal
gaps between each song. I am going to give the album as a gift to friends, colleagues and
family. Eventually I will write lyrics  for some of the songs on the album plus four other new
songs in my portfolio.  Oh by the way the album is called 'A little film music'.

      December 2009
I have decided that for every sale of the album Thirty Years on Pause I will donate half the cost -
£3 to Children in Need and give a free copy of A little film music.

I noticed that my co songwriter in the USA has placed the two songs 'Tell me,Tell me' and
'What happened to me' on her website. So they are now on this website - just click the jukebox
on the Home Page to hear them.

'A little film music ' tracks

      2. Song in my heart
      3. At the end of the day

      8. Journeys end
      9. When
     10.Dance for life
     11.Sands of time

     January 2010 - August 2010

A lot has happened but no more news as yet on my USA demos.

I have written and recorded a lot of music using my digital piano and recording equipment. I can
also produce draft demos with vocals. The quality of recording has improved considerably and I
have produced some very good instrumental tracks. They are on MySpace link. I have been on
a music for film and tv course and have decided that it is technically beyond me. There is
possibility that I can submit music to large companies that produce library discs for the media
     industry.

Writing lyrics has been a priority. I have written two songs with  a lyricist Darren Whitehead - I
wrote the music for his lyric I wish I had the words and he wrote most of the lyric for my melody
Sands of time. I have written music and lyrics for a song - The time is right and revised the lyric
     for Over and Over

The aim is to make professional demos of these songs and then market them throughout the
music industry. This is is very expensive. It is also very time consuming and is a steep learning
curve for me. It is going to be a difficult journey. I have had two studio demos recorded and
these are ready for marketing. They are Dance for Life - a collaboration with Adrienne Tinn and
The time is right which is all mine. I have also decided to market three folk  tracks from the
album Thirty Years on Pause - I long for the summer, The summer sun and Over the ocean. I
also have a good studio recording of a vocal track of At the end of the day from the album A
     little film music

To keep costs down I am going to try to produce hybrid demos. This will involve me producing
the basic backing track with my equipment and then taking them to the studio for completion. I
am going to try this with Sands of Time.

     August 2010

This month got off to a bad start with an email from Red Amaryllis Music to say that the US TV
movie project has been cancelled due to funding problems. I was given the reassurance that
they were marketing both songs vigorously. I have just got to wait patiently. The early success
I wrote about was a little premature, but I do remain optimistic.

Well it is the end of August and what have I achieved? The first hybrid demo is complete, Sands
of Time and I am very pleased with it. I have written the words to Jamaican Sky which is now
     called hear you calling.

I have got around to writing words for 3 other songs from the A little film music album - When,
A song in my heart and Talking it over, which is now called Love, long overdue - words based
on a lyric by Darren Whitehead.  www.darren-whitehead.com

      November 2010

Lots of songs have been recorded as demos.

I have decided to divide the demos into two categories

Demos  = either hybrid or full studio demos

Voume 1    Songs in the folk tradition - now complete

Over and Over - hybrid -2009 rewrite - on jukebox
At the end of the day 2010 - on jukebox
The Summer Sun - 2009 shortened version
      When - 2010
Song in my Heart- hybrid - 2010 - on jukebox
I long for the summer - 2009 shortened version - on jukebox
      Over the ocean - 2009
      Dance for Life - 2009 -  Saunders/Tinn
      Journey's end - hybrid - 2010 instrumental

Volume 2   More contemporary songs - in the process of recording

      Sands of time - hybrid - 2010 - Saunders/Whitehead
The time is right - 2010

      To be recorded asap

      Someday
Love, long overdue - hybrid -Saunders/Whitehead
      I wish I had the words - Saunders/Whitehead
      Whiskey,bottle mirror - hybrid - Saunders/Whitehead
I hear you calling - hybrid

      January 2011

Love, long overdue and I wish I had the words are finished.
Whiskey bottle mirror is nearly completed
A new song based upon a Darren Whitehead lyric is in production
I hear you calling will be the next recording

The big frustration is the impenetrable nature of the music industry. Therein lies a story for
      next month.
